Job summary

VDOT in Virginia seeks a seasoned Civil Engineer to supervise professional engineering staff, lead complex transportation projects, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery. You will coordinate with management, stakeholders, and FHWA, supervise design and preparation of contract plans, and provide leadership across districts.

This role requires strong data analysis, project management, and customer service, with a focus on meeting regulatory and safety standards across state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Experience in supervisory and human resources practices and principles including hiring, discipline, performance management, and employee development.
• Skill in applying civil engineering principles related to roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.
• Skill in managing transportation design projects to include scope, schedule and estimates.
• Knowledge of project management practices and principles.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with project team members and stakeholders to disseminate vital technical project information.
• Supervise consultant design and contract plan development for highway projects of varying complexity.
• Lead and develop staff, assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance.
• Prepare and review technical reports and documentation for projects in compliance with VDOT standards.
• Coordinate activities with management, stakeholders, customers, and FHWA throughout transportation projects.
