Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an experienced engineering/construction professional for Georgetown County. The role plans and coordinates maintenance on the State Highway System, investigates public requests, and manages records and surveys.

The position includes supervising personnel actions, assisting with emergency operations, and liaising with the Georgetown County Transportation Committee.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and schedules maintenance activities on the State Highway System in Georgetown County.
• Investigates public, government, and agency requests and evaluates responses.
• Manages filing and record-keeping for unit files, reports, requisitions, and related work.
• Conducts engineering surveys and performs periodic inspections of roads and bridges in Georgetown County.
• Manages personnel actions including hiring, promotions, demotions, reclassifications, training, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
• Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations and may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Serves as liaison to the Georgetown County Transportation Committee (CTC) and attends meetings to recommend resurfacing, traffic signals, sidewalks, drainage improvements, etc.
• Prepares and explains cost estimates as needed.
