Job summary

New Leaf Energy is seeking a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer in Lowell, MA to lead transmission analysis, identify optimal interconnection locations for utility-scale projects, and guide the development team through the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external consultants, apply ISO practices, and contribute to policy discussions. The role offers hybrid work arrangements and requires strong power engineering expertise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar study.
• 5+ years of power engineering experience with transmission planning focus.
• Advanced knowledge of power systems and transmission planning practices.
• Proficiency with planning software for transmission analysis (Steady State, stability, transfers).
• Ability to read ISO study deliverables and assess impact on projects.
• Strong understanding of regional ISO study practices.
• Ability to teach less experienced engineers how to perform transmission analysis.
• PM fundamentals;
• Well-organized self-starter with drive for success.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead for transmission planning across ISO territories; guide developers in network navigation.
• Perform transmission analysis with minimal supervision by Lead TPE or Manager.
• Create scopes of work for third-party engineers to support operations.
• Review deliverables from internal or external engineers.
• Create SOPs for team study methodologies.
• Evaluate ISO and utility impact studies; propose alternatives when appropriate.
• Assist developers in evaluating site feasibility and potential upgrades.
• Onboard and manage third-party consultants for engineering analyses.
