Job summary

A leading engineering firm based in Norcross seeks an experienced drafter with over 10 years in Transmission Lines design. You will work in a hybrid setting, applying your AutoCAD skills to develop transmission plans and collaborate with engineers. Qualifications

10+ years of experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
Knowledge of design techniques and tools involved in technical plans.

Develop transmission line plans and profile drawings.
Create master sketches showing installations to existing facilities.
Interface with vendors and construction contractors regarding designs.

Job description

This position will offer you the the opportunity to work in a project team environment with engineers and other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

An Associate’s Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
10+ years of experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
Ability to multi-task from project to project.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Attention to detail.

Valued but not required skills and experience:

Experience using Microstation, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.
