Job summary

Welty Energy is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Estimator to join its Energy team. This role can be remote within the mainland United States and will involve creating utility project estimates, mentoring junior estimators, and supporting the Welty Project Management Team.

The Senior Estimator will produce conceptual routes, develop schedules, and coordinate with internal design teams on transmission line and substation projects spanning 25kV to 765kV.

Qualifications

• High school or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field is advantageous.
• 6+ years of experience in transmission line design or utility estimating, focused on substation and transmission work.
• Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Produce conceptual transmission line routes on a Google Earth KMZ file with pole placements.
• Create preliminary project schedules considering lead times, crews, construction durations, siting, etc.
• Write Scope of Work for conceptual/pre-funding approval projects.
• Work with internal transmission line layout teams for preliminary designs.
• Create and review substation and transmission line estimates using Sage and Navigator.
• Work on 25kV-765kV utility equipment for line and substation.
• Review/aid supplemental estimates such as access roads, forestry, SCADA/IT networks, fiber, testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate with scoping and estimating teams, planning and protection engineering, sponsors, and staff.
• Attend regional meetings with planning and protection to review status of open estimates.
• Review/approve/reject estimate requests in OPPM.
• Build accurate project schedule timelines for transmission line and support estimates.

Welty Energy is looking for a Senior Transmission Line Estimator to join our Energy team!

Welty Energy, an affiliate of Welty, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, substation engineering and construction oversight on transmission, substation and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV to 765kV.

Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, Welty Energy currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.

As a Senior TranmissionEstimator, you will create utility project estimates, act as an extension of our client and provide best-in-class service. As the Senior, you will be involved with consulting on select projects as well as providing assistance to the Welty Project Management Team and mentoring junior Estimators.

This position can be remote in the mainland United States, operating in ET hours.

• Work will involve 25kV-765kV Utility Power Equipment for Line and Substation.
• Review/Aide supplemental support estimates such as, but not limited to, access roads, forestry, SCADA/IT network, fiber, testing and commissioning, and related.
• Coordinate with other scoping and estimating team members, planning and protection engineering, sponsors, regional contacts and personnel from the supplemental support estimate staff.
• Attend regional meetings with planning, protection and other stakeholders to review the status of all open estimates.
• Review/approve/reject estimate requests in OPPM.
• Build accurate project schedule timelines for transmission line and support estimates

What we require:

• Ability to effectively manage a high-volume workload while communicating efficiently and effectively with internal and external clients.
• Solid understanding of engineering design/drawing packages.
• High school or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical degree is advantageous.
• 6+ years of experience in transmission line design, or utility estimating, specifically focused on Substation and Transmission work.
• Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, specifically within Excel.

What we prefer:

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience with Substation or Transmission line design, construction, and/or testing (aligned with estimating experience).
• Ability to mine and analyze data.
