Job summary

TriMet is seeking a Chief Safety & Security Officer to lead safety, security, and environmental programs across the transit system. The role ensures risk identification and reduction, and a safe experience for employees and passengers, with on-call 24/7 readiness for emergencies.

The position leads safety strategy, compliance with FTA, OSHA, and PTASP, and directs Budgets, training, and labor relations across the organization. In-person focus with potential limited remote work per policy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree is required.
• 12 years total experience in safety management, emergency preparedness, health & safety, and environmental safety.
• 5 years in transportation operations, emergency management, law enforcement, or safety and security.
• 5 years of executive/senior level management experience related to safety.
• Must enroll in the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program within 30 days and recertify as required by the FTA.
• Equivalent combinations of training or experience are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement proactive strategies to ensure safety and security of TriMet’s customers and workforce.
• Ensure compliance with FTA, DHS, OSHA, PTASP and related laws.
• Direct work of staff, coordinating schedules and programs, and coach for high performance.
• Oversee system-wide safety plans, risk assessments, and loss prevention programs.
• Coordinate with State Safety Oversight, FRA, and FTA for safety certifications and project oversight.
• Provide leadership to safety personnel and training programs.
