Job summary

Town of Blacksburg, VA seeks a Transit Mechanic Foreman to lead skilled vehicle maintenance and supervise a crew of mechanics and assistants. You will schedule and direct repairs, ensure preventive maintenance, and coordinate after-hours work as needed.

The role requires deep automotive knowledge, supervisory experience, and the ability to diagnose a range of systems. Starting pay is $54,850 to $57,066 annually, with some weekend rotations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ASE certification/Auto Mechanics Certification/Associates Degree or equivalent.
• Supervisory experience.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Mechanics, Mechanic Assistants, and Maintainer Crew Leader, assigning, directing, training, and evaluating staff.
• Assists with hiring, supervising, and scheduling of division personnel; recommends transfers or promotions.
• Coordinates scheduling of vehicles for maintenance, inspection and repairs.
• Schedules special repairs after hours and holidays.
• Performs duties of Mechanic as needed including diagnosing and repair of A/C and mechanical problems.
