Job summary

GFT seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer / Project Manager to lead traffic engineering and design on NYC and Long Island projects. Hybrid work options with offices in Woodbury or New York City. You will mentor staff, coordinate with agencies, and ensure high-quality transportation solutions.

The role requires 8–12 years of experience, a NY PE license or reciprocity, and strong skills in traffic analysis, MUTCD, and signal design. Join an integrated team delivering multimodal mobility improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PE license in NY or ability to reciprocity within six months.
• 8–12 years of progressively responsible experience in traffic engineering and transportation design.
• Experience leading design tasks for NYSDOT/NYCDOT/MTA or public-sector agencies.
• Strong knowledge of traffic operations analysis and signal design.
• Proficiency with contract plans, specs, estimates, and construction documentation.
• Proficient with MicroStation, ProjectWise, MS Office; working knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS.

Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering and design tasks from initiation through final design and construction support.
• Perform operational analyses and simulations using Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, and related tools.
• Prepare traffic impact studies, memos, and engineering recommendations.
• Apply MUTCD, NYSDOT/NYCDOT standards to signing, striping, and MOT/MPT plans.
• Lead development of signal plans including phasing and timing.
• Interface with clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support project managers with scope, schedule, and budgets.
• Ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
