Position Overview

The Senior Traffic Engineer serves in a lead technical capacity, overseeing the execution of transportation and traffic engineering assignments with minimal supervision. This role involves managing studies and analyses from initial data gathering through final documentation, maintaining direct communication with clients and public agencies, and representing the company in professional, governmental, and community settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, independent judgment, and the ability to confidently manage projects and client stakeholder interactions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Independently manage and perform traffic engineering evaluations, including traffic impact assessments, signal warrant studies, operational analyses, level-of-service calculations, and transportation planning efforts.
• Build, analyze, and fine-tune traffic simulation and capacity models utilizing Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro/SimTraffic tools.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documents and reports in accordance with applicable client expectations and regulatory standards established by agencies such as PRHTA and FHWA.
• Act as the lead coordinator for assigned projects, overseeing schedules, deliverables, and scope while maintaining regular communication with clients.
• Conduct meetings and presentations with clients, municipal representatives, planning commissions, and public stakeholders to discuss study findings and recommendations.
• Coordinate activities with field personnel, subconsultants, survey teams, and traffic data collection staff.
• Review and verify the accuracy and quality of traffic counts, vehicle classification data, and turning movement information.
• Assist in the preparation of proposals by contributing technical methodologies, staffing plans, and workload estimates.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs).
