Job summary

The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department, Engineering Division, seeks a Senior Traffic Engineer with strong technical and customer service skills to join the team. The ideal candidate has public sector experience and is well-versed in best practices for traffic operations and design.

Responsibilities include creating traffic control plans, conducting traffic studies with Synchro, performing safety assessments, and managing CIP traffic projects from concept to completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field required.
• Minimum five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience.
• Licenses: California PE and California TE registrations; valid CA driver’s license.
• Must communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and review traffic control plans for construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct and review traffic studies including volume counts, speed studies, intersection analyses, and synchr o analyses.
• Perform safety audits and recommend improvements to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety.
• Oversee traffic engineering projects from concept through implementation within budgets and schedules.
• Manage construction of CIP traffic projects, coordinating with contractors and Caltrans procedures.
• Develop and review traffic design plans for roadways, corridors, and pedestrian facilities.
• Collaborate with city planners, contractors, and stakeholders to incorporate feedback into designs.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings for stakeholders.
