Baxter & Woodman in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, and Texas is seeking a Traffic Engineer Technical Lead to provide technical leadership and oversight for traffic engineering and transportation projects across our national service area.

The role emphasizes mentoring staff, leading traffic impact studies, signal design, signing and pavement marking plans, and collaboration with state, county, municipal, and private clients to drive quality, growth, and project success.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive traffic engineering and transportation experience.
• Strong knowledge of traffic operations, traffic safety, signal systems, and planning principles.
• Experience managing and reviewing traffic impact studies, signals improvements, and related projects.
• Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman's Illinois service areas (own transportation).
• Independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
• Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
• Lead, manage, and review traffic impact studies, analyses, signal warrant studies, and corridor evaluations.
• Lead, manage, and review preparation of signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and related documents.
• Serve as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews.
• Lead or support proposals, client presentations, and business development activities.
• Assist with traffic-related strategic growth initiatives within the transportation practice.
• Develop and implement QA/QC standards to improve consistency and efficiency.
• Stay current on FHWA guidance, MUTCD, and evolving best practices.
