Selby Jennings is partnering with a global oil & gas supermajor looking to hire a Senior Trading Accountant who thrives in fast-paced, detail-oriented environments and understands the financial dynamics of commodity trading. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring the accuracy of trading results, supporting compliance efforts, and contributing to financial reporting across a diverse set of energy products. You'll work closely with teams in Finance, Operations, Tax, and Trading to maintain data integrity and provide insights that support both day-to-day decisions and broader strategic goals. Base pay range
$115,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
- Dive deep into trading system outputs and Middle Office calculations to explain shifts in deal profitability across time periods.
- Review and validate data before it flows into the ERP system, collaborating with Operations to maintain up-to-date and accurate deal records.
- Reconcile monthly hedge transactions and ensure they align with financial reporting standards.
- Coordinate quarterly and annual reconciliations between multiple trading entities and affiliates for consolidated reporting.
- Assist in preparing IFRS-compliant reporting packages, including detailed note disclosures.
- Respond to SOX-related inquiries and build strong relationships with internal and external auditors to ensure smooth audit cycles.
- Work with the Tax Department and external advisors to evaluate transfer pricing and tax implications across operations in three countries.
- Analyze mark-to-market calculations and risk metrics generated by proprietary trading systems.
- Support the review of monthly close processes, including inventory valuation, time value of money calculations, and RINs accounting.
Qualifications
- You bring 5-8 years of experience in finance or accounting, ideally within the energy trading or commodity marketing space.
- You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance or Accounting. A CPA designation is a strong plus.
- You're well-versed in IFRS and/or US GAAP, especially as it applies to mark-to-market accounting.
- You're a proficient Excel user and comfortable working with trading systems and ERP platforms.
- You're analytical, detail-oriented, and thrive in collaborative, cross-functional environments.
