Job summary

Centalion is seeking an experienced Trading Desk Accountant in Houston, TX to support monthly close, reporting, and trading desk accounting. The role requires a continuous improvement mindset, strong analytical skills, and proven accounting ability.

Responsibilities include reconciling P&L, validating AR/AP balances, and coordinating with Front/Middle Office. A CPA or accounting degree is preferred and the candidate should be comfortable in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required or CPA preferred.
• Solid working knowledge of financial accounting and GAAP.
• Understanding of commodity trading, especially physical power and natural gas.
• Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving ability.
• Proficiency in Excel and ability to analyze data.

Responsibilities

• Perform monthly P&L reconciliations for trading desks.
• Account for commodity trading transactions (purchases, sales, costs).
• Validate AR/AP balances for assigned desks and commodities.
• Ensure data accuracy with Trading system information.
• Coordinate with Front/Middle Office and Operations for accurate reporting.
• Review balance sheet, cash movements and working capital for desks.
• Participate in Quarter End reporting and Year End audit preparations.

Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA preferred
• Strong working knowledge of financial accounting
• Understanding of commodity trading business, especially physical power and natural gas trading
• Self-motivated, results oriented, and strong problem-solving skills
• Strong technical skills with proficiency in Excel
• Ability to independently research and analyze; discuss conclusions with senior management
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Team oriented with willingness to train colleagues

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform monthly economic to accounting Profit & Loss statement reconciliations
• Account for commodity trading transactions (purchases, sales, costs).
• Validate AR/AP balances for assigned Trade desks/commodities
• Ensure accuracy and consistency with Trading system data
• Liase with Front/Middle Office and Operations to ensure accuracy, and consistency of reported figures
• Review balance sheet, cash movements, and working capital for assigned desks
• Quarterly / Year-end
  • Participate in Quarter End reporting activities
  • Compile pertinent data for management reporting and financial statements
  • Participate in Year End audit and financial statement preparation, as needed
