Job summary

U.S. Xpress in Ellenwood, GA is seeking an experienced Technician, III Tractor to diagnose and repair engines, drivetrains, and electrical systems. You will mentor junior techs, complete DOT documentation, and ensure tractors are ready for next driver.

Physical requirements include long-wear, lifting, and climbing, with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency. Competitive pay and full benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
• Some college or trade school preferred.
• ASE certifications preferred.
• DOT, AC, and brake certifications required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Ability to read and write.
• Must provide own hand tools adequate to perform job functions.
• Minimum of 5 years of tractor experience required.

Responsibilities

• Perform in depth diagnostic and repairs on engines, transmission, driveline, HVAC, electrical, suspension, brakes and air systems etc.
• Act as a mentor and trainer to Tractor Tech I and II’s as needed.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion.
• Drive trucks in and out of shop before and after repairs.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or better than SRT times.
• Repair/replace bolts on body parts such as hoods and cab extenders.
• Perform DOT inspections as outlined in USX guidelines.
• Perform open seat inspections to prepare tractor for next driver.
• Perform 90 day lease operator inspections.
• Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis.
• Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring etc.
• Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers as outlined in USX pm guidelines.
• Check vehicle fluids (e.g. transmission, oil, windshield wiper, antifreeze, etc.).
• Change vehicle tires.
• Grease mechanical parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
