Job summary

U.S. Xpress in Springfield, OH is looking for a Tractor Technician III to diagnose, service and repair tractors and related mechanical components.

The role requires 5+ years of tractor experience, ASE or DOT certifications preferred, and the ability to mentor Tech I/II, complete DOT documentation, and maintain productivity within the shop.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Some college or trade school preferred.
• ASE certifications preferred; DOT, AC, and brake certs required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to read and write.
• Must be able to analyze and safely resolve mechanical problems.
• Must provide own hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Tests, services, and repairs tractors and related mechanical components.
• Perform in-depth diagnostics and repairs on engines, transmission, driveline, HVAC, electrical, suspension, brakes and air systems.
• Act as a mentor and trainer to Tractor Tech I and II’s as needed.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion.
• Drive trucks in and out of shop before and after repairs.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or better than SRT times.
• Repair/replace bolts on body parts such as hoods and cab extenders.
• Perform DOT inspections as outlined in USX guidelines.
• Perform open seat inspections to prepare tractor for next driver.
• Perform 90 day lease operator inspections.
• Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis.
• Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring etc.
• Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers as outlined in USX pm guidelines.
• Check vehicle fluids (e.g. transmission, oil, windshield wiper, antifreeze, etc.).
• Change vehicle tires.
• Grease mechanical parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of tractor experience required.
• A Technical Diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.

• Prior drive train, OEM, ABS, ATC, and auto shift diagnostic experience preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
