Job summary

Canopy Aerospace & Defense seeks an experienced TPS engineer to own component design from concept to deployment. You will collaborate across aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux into robust, flight-ready solutions.

Responsibilities include leading material trade studies, CAD development, and interface with manufacturing, while delivering on accelerated schedules and maintaining current knowledge of state-of-the-art TPS technologies.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of direct TPS design ownership, flight-tested or high-enthalpy tested.
• Knowledge of TPS materials: thermal blankets, ablative carbon composites, ceramics, cryogenic insulation.
• Full lifecycle design from concept to manufacturing with 3D CAD and GD&T.
• Strong fundamentals in structural mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, and ablation.
• Proven ability to deliver hardware on accelerated schedules with creative engineering.
• Excellent cross-functional communication across teams.
• U.S. Security Clearance Eligibility: Active Secret or higher or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end TPS component design from requirements to hardware delivery.
• Lead material trade studies balancing thermal survivability and manufacturing realities.
• Collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials and test teams to translate heat flux into robust designs.
• Develop CAD drawings, ICDs, and interface with manufacturing to ensure parts meet spec.
• Support testing campaigns and data reduction to iterate designs.
• Serve as TPS SME and stay current with state-of-the-art technologies.
• Lead proposals and new products to enhance capabilities and defense growth.
