Job summary

Canopy A&D is seeking a design engineer to take ownership of TPS components from concept through manufacturing. You will collaborate across aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux and aero loads into robust mechanical designs.

The role requires CAD proficiency, GD&T, and a strong foundation in structures and thermodynamics, with experience in high-enthalpy testing and defense-related projects. Expect on-site work in Irvine, CA or Littleton, CO.

Qualifications

• More than 2 years of direct, verifiable experience designing and owning TPS components or assemblies qualified through high-enthalpy testing such as arc-jet.
• Familiar with hypersonic systems, ablation mechanics, and TPS solutions.
• CAD, drawing release, and GD&T proficiency.
• Strong fundamentals in structures, materials science, thermodynamics, and manufacturing.
• Ability to deliver under tight schedules with creative solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end TPS component design from requirements to manufacture release.
• Drive material trade studies balancing thermal survivability and manufacturability for hypersonic regimes.
• Collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux into robust designs.
• Develop CAD drawings, ICDs, and interface with manufacturing to ensure build-to-spec parts.
• Support testing campaigns (arc-jet) and perform data reduction to guide design iterations.
• Act as TPS SME and contribute to proposals and new product development.
