Job summary

Canopy Aerospace & Defense is seeking an experienced aerothermal engineer to refine TPS requirements through modeling and simulation for space and hypersonics platforms. You will work with TPS design and manufacturing teams to develop effective TPS solutions and lead projects within a small, expert team.

You will engage with external customers, perform CFD analyses, and contribute to proposals while maintaining high standards for safety and quality.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field with 2+ years' CFD experience on vehicle-level systems.
Experience with thermal analysis and heat transfer simulations.
Experience with TPS sizing and analysis using FIAT/CHAR/CBAero/TPSSizer/MINIVER/LAURA.
Familiarity with Python and CFD tools (FUN3D, Star-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, etc.).

Responsibilities

Engage with external customers to complete trade studies on aerothermal environments and TPS response.
Assess ablation and heat transfer for TPS stackups at different fidelities.
Create, mesh, run, and post-process CFD models.
Lead external and internal flow field simulations.
Calculate pressure, heat flux, and aero loads for multiple teams.
Support R&D for new reentry vehicle concepts.
Collaborate cross-functionally with design, development and test groups.
Develop test plans for experiments to validate simulations.
Review post-flight data and compare to pre-flight estimates.
Contribute to proposals and new TPS products.
