Job summary

Canopy Aerospace & Defense seeks an engineer to join the aerothermal team, refining TPS requirements via modeling and simulation for space and hypersonics platforms. You will lead projects with external customers, coordinating with TPS design and manufacturing to deliver effective TPS solutions.

The role requires self-motivation, ability to thrive in ambiguity, and proven project leadership to completion. Relocation may be needed for onsite locations in Irvine, CA or Littleton, CO.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant technical field with 2+ years of CFD/vehicle-level experience.
• Experience with thermal analysis and heat transfer simulations.
• Familiarity with TPS sizing & analysis using tools such as FIAT, CHAR, CBAero, TPSSizer, MINIVER, and LAURA.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance if required.

Responsibilities

• Engage with external customers to complete trade studies considering aerothermal environment and TPS material response.
• Assess ablation and heat transfer for TPS stackups at different fidelity levels.
• Create, mesh, run, and post-process CFD models.
• Responsible for external and internal flow field simulations.
• Calculate pressure, heat flux, and aero buffet/vibration loads for thermal and structures teams.
• Participate in R&D for new reentry vehicles.
• Collaborate with design, development, and test groups.
• Develop test plans for experimental campaigns to validate simulations.
• Review post-flight data and compare with pre-flight estimates.
• Contribute to proposals and new products to enhance technical capabilities.
