Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join its client-facing team in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. You will manage a diverse portfolio of residential, agricultural and commercial projects across the Wessex region, from feasibility through to planning conditions and completion.

This role offers a varied workload, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and the opportunity to lead planning applications and appeals while advising clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience within a planning consultancy, professional services or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of residential, commercial and/or agricultural planning.
• Experience preparing and managing planning applications and appeals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Providing initial feasibility advice and developing planning strategies for clients.
• Managing pre-application enquiries and providing clear planning advice.
• Preparing Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and supporting documentation.
• Preparing, submitting and managing a wide range of planning applications across Residential, Commercial and Agricultural projects.
• Dealing with Listed Building Consent applications.
• Acting as Project Lead, coordinating external consultants and working closely with internal teams.
• Advising clients on planning conditions, Section 106 agreements, CIL and other planning obligations.
• Supporting the promotion of development sites through the planning and adoption process.
• Preparing, submitting and managing planning appeals.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Job Title: Senior Planner

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multi-disciplinary professional services firm in their search for an experienced Senior Planner to join their team in Sturminster Newton, Dorset.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Planner looking for a genuinely varied, client-facing and -earning role, working across a broad range of Residential, Agricultural and Commercial projects throughout the Wessex region.

You'll work closely with a number of professional teams within the business, getting involved from the initial concept and feasibility stage right through to planning conditions and project completion.

The Role

As a Senior Planner, you will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of planning projects while acting as a key point of contact for clients. Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing initial feasibility advice, preparing Planning Appraisals and developing planning strategies for clients
• Managing Pre-Application Enquiries and providing clear planning advice
• Preparing Planning Statements, Design & Access Statements and supporting documentation
• Preparing, submitting and managing a wide range of planning applications across Residential, Commercial and Agricultural projects
• Dealing with Listed Building Consent applications
• Acting as Project Lead, coordinating external consultants and working closely with internal design, rural, commercial and valuation teams
• Advising clients on planning conditions, Section 106 agreements, CIL and other planning obligations
• Supporting the promotion of development sites through the planning and adoption process
• Preparing, submitting and managing planning appeals
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and other professional stakeholders

The Candidate

We're looking for an experienced planning professional who is confident managing projects from initial feasibility through to determination and beyond.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience within a planning consultancy, professional services or similar environment
• Strong experience across Residential, Commercial and/or Agricultural planning
• Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system
• Experience preparing and managing planning applications and appeals
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The confidence to deal directly with clients and professional stakeholders
• The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
• MRTPI or working towards chartership would be advantageous
