Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking a Senior Planning Officer to join the fast-track teams in the Southern and Western planning committee area. You will shape local place making and drive high-quality design across a range of minor and small-scale major applications.

The role includes negotiation, pre-application work, and presenting to committees. Ideal candidates will have degree-level town planning credentials, a postgraduate qualification, and RTPI Chartered status or eligibility, with experience in

Qualifications

Hold a degree-level qualification in town planning (or related subject) and a postgraduate qualification in planning is normally expected.
Post-qualification experience in a planning role, in either the public or private sector.
Chartered membership of the RTPI or eligibility to apply is desirable.
Experience with complex minor applications and experience of small-scale majors is desirable.

Responsibilities

Shape local place making and drive high-quality design through consideration of complex minor applications and some small-scale major applications.
Engage in negotiations on planning obligations and pre-application enquiries to influence outcomes.
Present applications to planning committee and represent the Council at hearings and public inquiries.
Mentor planning officers in the fast-track teams and sign off applications as appropriate.
