Job summary

Micron Solutions in Fitchburg, MA is seeking an experienced Injection Mold Tooling Manager who will stay hands-on while providing technical leadership to the Tool Room. The role supports molding operations from 55 to 300 tons and directs mold repair, maintenance and new builds.

You will mentor Mold Makers, coordinate tooling projects and collaborate with Engineering, Quality and Production to minimize downtime and improve tool life and performance.

Qualifications

• 10 years of hands-on injection mold making or tooling experience.
• Experience building, repairing, maintaining, modifying, fitting and troubleshooting injection molds.
• Strong knowledge of mold construction, components, shutoffs, parting lines, fitting, cooling, venting, ejection systems and maintenance.
• Independent diagnosis of mold-related performance and part-quality issues.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Hands-on knowledge of CNC machining, EDM, milling, grinding and turning.
• Ability to stay hands-on on the floor while leading tooling projects.
• Proven technical problem-solving, communication and leadership skills.
• Experience with hot runner systems and complex tooling; plastics resins.
• Mold trials, validation, qualification and NPI experience.
• Mold making certifications and mentoring experience.
• Medical device or regulated manufacturing exposure.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical expert for injection mold tooling, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and modification.
• Diagnose complex mold-related production and part-quality issues and drive to resolution.
• Remain hands-on with mold repair, fitting, assembly, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate new mold builds, repairs, preventive maintenance, engineering changes and outside tooling work.
• Review mold designs and provide practical mold-making input (DFM).
• Support mold trials, qualification, validation and production release.
• Identify root causes of tooling failures, scrap and downtime and implement improvements.
• Drive improvements in mold reliability, performance and tool life.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to Mold Makers and Tool Room staff.
• Partner with Process Technicians, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and Production to resolve tooling challenges.
• Prioritize Tool Room projects and ensure critical production tooling needs are met.
