Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Tooling Design Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to lead concept development, 3D CAD design, and production support for tooling on critical naval and aerospace programs.

You will serve as the technical liaison among engineering, manufacturing, and project management, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, and safety targets while delivering on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in a STEM discipline with 8+ years in DMF; master's with 6+ years.
• Experience in 3D CAD modeling using standard CAD software.
• Experience creating 2D drawings from 3D models.
• Experience modifying existing 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal customers to capture functional requirements.
• Develop tooling concepts, feasibility studies, and cost–benefit analyses.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models (NX preferred) and production 2D drawings.
• Develop fabrication requirements and procurement specs to guide production.
• Provide hands-on technical support to manufacturing teams and vendors.
• Perform first-article and in-process inspections to verify tolerances.
• Troubleshoot fabrication issues to maintain quality and schedule.
• Document design revisions through the Tooling Configuration Control Analyst.
