Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Sr. Principal Tooling Design Engineer Level 4 to design tooling, dies, gauges, jigs and fixtures for production and experimental use. You will create 3D models and 2D drawings, lead design reviews, and collaborate with internal customers to deliver safe, manufacturable tooling on time.

Ideal candidates hold a STEM degree with 8 years of related experience (or advanced degrees with fewer years), a P.E. certification, and NX modeling experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in STEM with 8 years of experience in Mechanical/Design/Tooling or related fields; or Masters with 6 years; or PhD with 4 years.
• P.E. Certification in Structural or Machine Design and Materials.
• Structural analysis experience (FEA and hand calculations).
• Experience with tooling used in manufacture of composite and metallic parts.
• Ability to obtain/maintain DoD clearance and Special Program Access.
• Experience with Solid modeling (NX preferred) and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models and 2D drawings for tooling and fixtures used in production and experiments.
• Design safe, manufacturable tooling to support testing and transport of products.
• Lead design reviews (30/60/90%) to ensure customer satisfaction and schedule adherence.
• Collaborate with internal customers to design support equipment for programs.
• Coordinate with Tool Engineering to deliver designs on time and within budget.
• Review drawings for manufacturability and monitor budgets and schedules for tasks.
• Perform engineering analyses of tooling and seal/validate safety-critical designs.
