POSITION SUMMARY

The Southern States LLC Senior Tool & Die Maker analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.

HOW YOU WILL ADD VALUE:

• Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize the product to determine materials required and machines to be used
• Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly methods and sequence of operations
• Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining
• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, verify conformance of parts to specifications
• Knowledge of CNC G-Code programming language and ability to write/edit CNC programs
• Lift and position machined parts, fit and assemble parts into assemblies
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances
• Heat treat tools or parts
• Examine dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommend modifications
• Develop specifications and sketches for tools and products
• Assist in leading, scheduling, and delegating tool jobs within the Tool Room

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Two-year machine tool/machinist certificate from college or technical school and over five years of related Tool & Die experience; or six to eight years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Mathematical Skills: Ability to convert dimensions, perform calculations, and use machinist formulas and tools.
