Base pay range

$30.00/hr - $40.00/hr

Title: Tool & Die Maker

Summary: The Tool and Die Maker builds, repairs, maintains, grooms, debugs, and troubleshoots high-speed progressive dies and/or plastic injection molds.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
• Repairs, maintains, grooms, debugs, troubleshoots dies, molds, machinery, etc.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part prints, and understand geometric tolerances.
• Use inspection equipment such as micrometers, venires, comparators, and inspect own work to ensure quality and specifications.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Teach and train tool room apprentices.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate measuring and production equipment safely and accurately.
• Understanding of geometric tolerances and quality control.
• Knowledge of tool steels and heat-treating properties.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineers and machinists.
• Understanding of EDM, HSM, and CAD software.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

• Completion of a 4-year state apprentice program with a tool and die maker certificate, with 5 to 10 years of experience.
• Equivalent experience of 5-10 years as a progressive die maker or mold maker.
• Trade school experience or a precision machining course, or 12 to 18 months working in a shop environment for potential apprentices.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift heavy objects.
• Stand for long periods.
