Job summary

Prometheus Energetics is seeking a Thermal Systems Engineer to own the design, modeling, testing and lifecycle integration of thermal protection systems for solid rocket motors. The role requires strong aerothermal and high-temperature materials experience, and proficiency with major thermal analysis tools.

The successful candidate will work under the Director of Engineering in Bloomington, Indiana, with responsibilities spanning from concept through high-rate production, including subscale

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials or chemical engineering or closely related field.
• 4–6 years in thermal protection systems or propulsion thermal analysis for SRMs.
• 7–10+ years for senior level owning TPS design and qualification.
• Proficiency with Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, Abaqus or similar tools.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead TPS design, sizing, and qualification for solid rocket motor assemblies.
• Evaluate high-temperature material systems (elastomeric insulations, carbon-phenolic, carbon-carbon, graphite).
• Define mechanical/chemical compatibility for TPS integration into motor cases.
• Conduct thermal modeling and analysis across 1D–3D domains; run trade studies.
• Plan and execute subscale tests; collect data for model correlation.
• Prepare engineering documentation and present results at program milestones.
