Johnson Controls is seeking a Principal Thermal R&D Engineer in Burlington, MA, to lead advanced thermal management research. You will own project portfolios, validate simulations with experiments, and advance two‑phase and refrigerant‑based cooling technologies while interfacing with the Solutions team and leadership.

The role requires a PhD with 8+ years (or MS/BS with 12+ years) in thermal science, hands‑on test rig work, and strong CFD/experimental validation skills.

Qualifikationen

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal‑Fluid Sciences or related field with 8+ years of experience OR MS/BS with 12+ years in thermal management R&D.
• Deep expertise in heat transfer and fluid mechanics, including single‑phase liquid cooling and two‑phase or refrigerant‑based systems.
• Proficiency with CFD and thermal‑fluid simulation tools and validation against experimental data.
• Hands‑on experience designing, building, and operating thermal test rigs and instrumentation.
• Experience taking thermal technologies from concept through prototype to production‑ready or commercial launch.

Aufgaben

• Define and drive the thermal technology roadmap; scope, propose, and manage research projects with clear hypotheses and milestones.
• Conceive novel thermal device architectures leveraging Stack Forging internal geometries; guide design iteration with CFD insights.
• Design and build test rigs; execute experiments; analyze data to validate performance and quantify uncertainty.
• Serve as the technical authority on thermal performance; mentor engineers and uphold analytical rigor.
