Job description

Senior API Test Engineer in St. Louis, MO

Job# 3057850

Job Description
Description

We're looking for a Senior Test Engineer to support enterprise-scale API, integration and data solutions. You'll make sure business-critical applications and services that support sales and operations are high-quality, reliable and accurate.

In this role, you'll lead quality on the technical side for API-driven applications, system integrations and data solutions. You'll review business requirements, technical specifications, API documentation and data models to build and run testing strategies. The ideal candidate can work independently to create test scenarios, build Postman collections, validate data and system behavior, investigate defects, and maintain test plans and test cases throughout the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and run testing strategies for API-driven applications, integrations and data solutions
  • Review business requirements, technical specifications, API documentation and data models to define testing scope, risks and coverage needs
  • Design, create and maintain test plans, test cases, test data and testing documentation
  • Build and run Postman collections from business requirements and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications to validate API functionality, business rules, authentication and error handling
  • Independently validate API transactions and the database records behind them to confirm data accuracy, business rules and end-to-end results
  • Run functional, integration, system, regression and user acceptance testing across multiple applications and services
  • Validate how data moves and transforms across connected systems, integrations and downstream consumers
  • Identify, document, troubleshoot and validate defects through resolution, using API responses, application logs and data analysis to find root causes
  • Partner with business and technical teams to clarify requirements, assess quality risks and make sure test coverage is complete
  • Report on testing progress, risks, defects and results, and support release validation and deployments
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software testing and quality assurance experience
  • 5+ years of experience testing APIs, integrations and data-centric applications in enterprise environments
  • Strong experience creating test strategies, test plans, test scenarios and test cases
  • Proven experience testing REST APIs using Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications
  • Ability to design and run API, integration and data validation tests on your own from requirements, specifications and API documentation, without relying on test scripts, Postman collections or queries written by developers
  • Experience testing applications where APIs, integrations and data services are the main interface, with little or no user interface to validate against
  • Strong experience validating application and integration data using relational databases and query tools
  • Experience with end-to-end data validation and business rule checks across multiple systems
  • Strong understanding of API concepts, including authentication, payload validation, status codes, request/response structures and error handling
  • Experience managing defects through the full lifecycle, from identification and documentation through validation, retesting and closure
  • Experience working on Agile software development teams
  • Proven experience with Jira, Confluence and test case management tools (Zephyr preferred)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related technical field
  • Experience with Salesforce applications and integrations
  • Experience with API test automation
  • Experience using Karate for API testing and automation
What Success Looks Like

The right candidate brings a strong quality mindset and the technical skills to validate APIs, integrations and data-heavy solutions on their own. They're comfortable reviewing requirements, building Postman collections from API specifications, validating data across multiple systems and finding defects without help from developer-created test materials. They'll help raise overall testing quality and act as a technical resource and trusted partner to the project team.
