The Test Engineer Senior serves as a technical quality leader responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and integrity of API-driven applications, system integrations, and data solutions. This role analyzes business requirements, technical specifications, API documentation, and data models to develop and execute effective testing strategies. The ideal candidate can independently create test scenarios, build Postman collections, validate data and system behavior, investigate defects, and maintain test plans and test cases throughout the software development lifecycle.
Job Specific Responsibilities
- Develop and execute testing strategies for API-driven applications, integrations, and data solutions.
- Analyze business requirements, technical specifications, API documentation, and data models to identify testing scope, risks, and coverage needs.
- Design, create, and maintain test plans, test cases, test data, and testing documentation.
- Build and execute Postman collections from business requirements and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications to validate API functionality, business rules, authentication, and error handling.
- Perform independent validation of API transactions and underlying database records to verify data accuracy, business-rule execution, and end-to-end processing results.
- Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and user acceptance testing activities across multiple applications and services.
- Validate data movement and transformations across interconnected systems, integrations, and downstream consumers.
- Identify, document, troubleshoot, and validate defects through resolution, leveraging API responses, application logs, and data analysis to support root cause investigation.
- Partner with business and technical teams to clarify requirements, assess quality risks, and ensure complete test coverage.
- Communicate testing progress, risks, defects, and results while supporting release validation and deployment activities.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- 8+ years of software testing and quality assurance experience.
- 5+ years of experience testing APIs, integrations, and data-centric applications in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience creating test strategies, test plans, test scenarios, and test cases.
- Proven experience testing REST APIs using Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute API, integration, and data validation testing from business requirements, technical specifications, and API documentation without reliance on developer-created test scripts, Postman collections, or validation queries.
- Experience testing applications where APIs, integrations, and data services represent the primary interface, with limited or no traditional user interface available for validation.
- Strong experience validating application and integration data using relational databases and query tools.
- Experience performing end-to-end data validation and business-rule verification across multiple systems.
- Strong understanding of API concepts, including authentication, payload validation, status codes, request/response structures, and error handling.
- Experience managing defects throughout the full lifecycle, including identification, documentation, validation, retesting, and closure.
- Experience working within Agile software development teams.
- Proven experience using Jira, Confluence, and test case management tools, preferably Zephyr.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Experience working with Salesforce applications and integrations.
- Experience with API test automation.
- Experience using Karate for API testing and automation.
