Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Senior Technical Writer at Fort Meade, MD to develop and maintain technical documentation for mission systems and analytic tools. You will turn complex information into clear content for analysts, engineers, and leadership, with documentation strategy leadership across programs.

The role requires experience with government/defense environments, familiarity with classification controls, and a TS clearance with SCI eligibility.

Qualifications

• Experience writing for complex government/defense systems.
• Strong grammar, structure, and editing with a portfolio.
• Knowledge of classification marking and handling controls.
• Ability to manage large documentation sets and concurrent schedules.
• Ability to learn new technologies and ask SMEs the right questions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; works independently under deadlines.
• Experience in agile/DevSecOps environments and CI/CD documentation.
• Familiarity with structured authoring or docs-as-code tools (Markdown, DITA, Git, Confluence, Madcap Flare, FrameMaker).
• Experience with RMF/ATO documentation and NIST 800-53 controls.
• Section 508 accessibility knowledge and diagram tools like Visio.

Responsibilities

• Research, write, and edit docs such as system design documents and SOPs.
• Interview SMEs to gather details and tailor content to audiences.
• Produce docs for software, data platforms, analytic tools, and IT environments.
• Document accreditation and compliance artifacts with IA staff.
• Establish style guides and documentation standards per federal requirements.
• Define documentation strategy and lifecycle, version control, and archiving.
• Lead docs-as-code workflows where appropriate.
• Lead reviews with security, legal, and program stakeholders, ensuring accuracy.
• Coordinate with security to properly mark and handle content.
• Support briefing materials for senior leadership and executives.
• Mentor junior writers and perform peer reviews for the team.
• Contribute to proposals and program reviews; participate in agile ceremonies.
