Job summary

FedWriters, Inc. is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support the U.S. General Services Administration by producing and maintaining IPDs for hardware, security containers, and hazmat items.

You will research technical specifications, validate data, and coordinate with engineering to keep records accurate and compliant. The role requires 6+ years of experience, HAZMAT certification, and the ability to work remotely with occasional coordination to Fort Worth, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with 6+ years of technical writing experience.
• HAZMAT certification or ability to obtain within 5 business days of assignment.
• Background check to obtain a federal government ID badge (PIV) is required.

Responsibilities

• Create and update Item Purchase Descriptions (IPDs) through research.
• Validate cataloging data across federal logistics systems for accuracy.
• Research and apply ASME/ASTM/ANSI/SAE standards to item records.
• Identify duplicate stock numbers by finding technically equivalent items.
• Evaluate vendor deviation/waiver requests and provide recommendations.
• Evaluate hazmat transport classification (49 CFR, IMDG, IATA) and assign DAC.
• Review SDS against current standards and submit to HMIRS when required.
• Prepare recurring status/progress reporting on cataloging throughput and quality metrics.
• Participate in technical and program meetings with SMEs.
