Job summary

N4 Solutions, LLC in the DMV area seeks a Senior Technical Editor to lead editorial quality and compliance across complex technical documents, reports, and manuals. You will supervise staff, ensure proper style and accessibility, and collaborate with researchers, engineers, and program staff to deliver publication-ready content.

The role requires a Master's degree and at least 10 years of related experience, including editing to GPO standards, and experience managing multi-project workflows.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in English, journalism, communications, a technical discipline, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in technical editing, publishing, communications, or related work, including supervisory and project management experience.
• Expert-level command of the U.S. Government Publishing Office Style Manual and strong knowledge of professional editorial standards.
• Experience overseeing editorial processes for complex, high-stakes technical documentation.
• Ability to edit highly technical or scientific information while preserving accuracy and meaning.
• Experience managing the full lifecycle of documents from draft through final publication, including electronic and web publishing.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing quality oversight to editorial staff.
• Strong knowledge of document production, version control, review workflows, and quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the editorial lifecycle for high-visibility and technically complex publications and communications products.
• Establish editorial quality standards across multiple concurrent projects and product lines.
• Review and edit technical documents for clarity, consistency, grammar, punctuation, organization, logical flow, style, formatting, and overall readability.
• Perform substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, rewriting, and reorganization as needed to improve content quality.
• Serve as a final editorial quality gate for complex or high-profile deliverables before publication.
• Ensure consistent application of editorial standards across large programs, publications, and other products.
• Implement and maintain rigorous quality control and version-control practices throughout document production.
• Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements to reduce errors.
