Job summary

IonQ in the United States is seeking a Senior Staff Technical Program Manager to lead cross-functional programs across the application platform, developer tooling, and compiler stack. You will report directly to the VP and carry program-level decision-making authority, owning the delivery across multiple engineering teams.

You’ll work across four teams, shaping milestones, mitigating risks, and turning ambitious technical visions into actionable plans while communicating with senior leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years managing technical programs and delivering against aggressive timelines.
• Experience leading technical teams through genuine ambiguity.
• Experience in developer tools, SDKs, compilers, or platform software.
• Ability to turn diffuse problems into specific, minimal asks.
• Technical fluency to engage with engineering leads on scoping and tradeoffs.
• Willingness to re-baseline against reality and motivate with realistic targets.
• Experience reconciling planning docs with ticket systems and handling drift.
• Ability to move between fast delivery and longer-horizon program building.
• AI as a core part of workflow and agent-driven program management.
• Customer-facing technical experience and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end delivery of IonQ's application platform, developer tools, and compiler roadmap.
• Partner with engineering leadership to turn technical vision into milestones and mitigate risks.
• Build and run timelines, tracking, and reporting used by teams; leverage AI tools as needed.
• Keep the systems of record aligned across PRDs, trackers, and Jira.
• Make invisible work visible, including on-call burden and technical debt.
• Dive into long-pole problems and stay in the weeds when needed.
• Surface unresolved risks early and maintain stakeholder alignment.
• Manage dependencies across internal and external teams.
• Write and present concise, data-driven status updates to senior leadership.
• Turn engineers' off-road ideas into formal proposals for prioritization.
