Job summary

Merck is seeking a Sr. Specialist in Technical Product Management to build and enhance data products across analytical method development, drug substance/product process development, and clinical supply processes.

The role collaborates with Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams, engaging with analytical scientists and process engineers to ensure data needs are met and value is delivered across scientific workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• 2+ years building tools or data assets supporting scientific or data analytics workflows
• 3-5 years working with scientific users to define requirements for data products
• Experience with data analytics capabilities in a scientific context
• Experience building ERDs, data models, and data mappings for science data
• Hands-on experience with data management services (AWS Athena, Glue, S3, Redshift)
• Proficiency in SQL and scientific data management
• Ability to translate scientific/business problems into actionable requirements
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and scientific stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to define data products for analytical methods, process development, and supply
• Gather and prioritize requirements from scientific stakeholders and understand constraints
• Define backlog and write actionable user stories for method development, process characterization, and supply operations
• Act as a user expert for scientific and supply users
• Prioritize improvements delivering measurable value to research, manufacturing, and supply
• Develop and maintain domain knowledge in analytical sciences, process development, and manufacturing/supply
• Write clear problem statements and requirements; facilitate design with engineering teams
• Serve as Product Owner on Agile teams or work closely to ensure data needs are met
• Plan, design, and conduct testing; create training/content for end-users
• Analyze data and observations to inform product strategy and decisions
• Support strategy with engineering teams for one or more data products
• Accept completed user stories meeting acceptance criteria and scientific requirements
• Advocate for the needs of scientific and supply stakeholders
