Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Director to join our DSCS Digital Technologies team. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining the data foundation powering data-driven modeling for sterile drug product development across biologics and vaccines.

The ideal candidate has hands-on sterile development experience and has transitioned into a data engineering/data science role, delivering robust data pipelines and analysis-ready datasets to support modeling efforts.

Qualifications

Hands-on experience in sterile drug product development, sterile DS/DP manufacturing, or related pharmaceutical development with a transition to data engineering/science.
Experience developing and deploying data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and data integration solutions in a scientific/pharmaceutical context.
Proficiency programming in Python and/or R, and with Posit/RStudio/Jupyter.

Responsibilities

Build partnerships with SPD experimentalists, engineers, and analytical scientists to gather data requirements for modeling pipelines.
Design robust, scalable data pipelines ingesting SPD data and analysis-ready datasets.
Partner on process modeling to translate data needs into datasets.
Define data standards, metadata schemas, and ontologies for data interoperability.
Automate data ingestion from lab instruments, ELN/LIMS/PAT systems, and cloud storage.
Develop data analysis and visualization workflows to surface SPD insights.
Create dashboards, reports, and data exports for stakeholders.
Curate data and define automation requirements for scale.
Influence SPD digital data strategy to improve data capture at source.
