Job summary

Aurora Innovation Inc. seeks a Technical Support Engineer to join the Vehicle Reliability Engineering team, working in Pittsburgh, PA or Mountain View, CA. You will troubleshoot real-time hardware and software issues on the autonomous fleet and build tools that scale our capabilities.

You will own SOPs, runbooks, and the knowledge base, mentor teammates, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep the fleet running safely and reliably while delivering tooling improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years troubleshooting complex hardware and software in real-time environments.
• 2+ years software development (Python, Go, TS, or C++) with internal tools.
• 5+ years Linux administration in a support role.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
• Strong writing skills with SOPs, runbooks or design docs.
• Ability to work independently under time pressure in safety-critical settings.
• Clear incident summaries for stakeholders; translate constraints for ops leads.
• Automotive or autonomous vehicle experience with sensor systems.
• Familiar with monorepo/Bazel, gRPC or cloud-native architectures.
• ITIL or formal service-management familiarity and strong networking background.

Responsibilities

• Serve as VRE's senior authority for real-time troubleshooting of complex issues.
• Design, build and own internal tools to scale troubleshooting capabilities.
• Own SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge base to support tooling and automation.
• Identify gaps in workflows and build tooling or process fixes.
• Mentor and develop other VRE engineers, setting technical standards.
