Job description

Senior Technical Director – Mission-Critical Space Electronics

Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain U.S. Government security clearance

A rapidly growing advanced technology company working across national security and commercial space is seeking a Senior Technical Director – Mission-Critical Electronics to lead the architecture and development of next-generation spacecraft electronics systems.

This role sits within a specialized advanced technology team responsible for defining and developing high-impact capabilities across space and defense applications. The position focuses on designing resilient, high-performance electronics architectures that support demanding mission environments from ground systems through airborne platforms and spaceborne deployments.

The successful candidate will help shape the future of spacecraft avionics and onboard computing by architecting systems that deliver high reliability, performance, and scalability.

Responsibilities
  • Define the technical strategy and architecture for mission-critical electronics systems supporting space and defense platforms
  • Lead development of next-generation spacecraft avionics, high-performance onboard compute, software-defined communications systems, and advanced sensing architectures
  • Design resilient system architectures that leverage modern commercial silicon and hybrid hardware/software fault tolerance techniques
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of electronics development including architecture, design reviews, PCB development, integration, testing, and flight qualification
  • Guide cross-disciplinary teams spanning electrical engineering, embedded software, and systems engineering
  • Ensure electronic subsystems are modular and scalable across multiple operational environments including ground, airborne, and space systems
  • Drive technical innovation while balancing reliability, cost, performance, and mission assurance
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of experience leading the development of complex electronics or avionics systems
  • Strong experience with spacecraft electronics, avionics architectures, or other high-reliability embedded systems
  • Expertise in high-speed digital design, FPGA/SoC integration, and embedded systems architectures
  • Experience designing systems for fault tolerance and mission assurance
  • Experience taking complex electronics from concept through prototyping, testing, and deployment
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical strategy
Preferred Experience
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Physics
  • Experience designing avionics or onboard computing systems for modern spacecraft or satellite constellations
  • Experience implementing hybrid hardware/software fault tolerance strategies
  • Experience working with radiation-tolerant or high-reliability systems for harsh environments
  • Experience integrating electronics into complete spacecraft or aerospace systems
  • Active or previously held U.S. security clearance
Why This Role

This position offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of spacecraft electronics systems and help define architectures that enable new capabilities across defense and commercial space missions.

Engineers in this team work on some of the most technically challenging problems in modern aerospace, developing resilient systems designed to operate in the most demanding environments.

If you enjoy designing complex systems, solving high-stakes engineering challenges, and building technologies that operate where failure is not an option, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
