Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering; twelve+ years with bachelor's, ten+ with master's, or seven+ with PhD; substitution possible.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance is preferred
  • Experience: electrical system command and data-handling architecture; high-speed digital circuit design; embedded processing and controls; hardware design from digital to RF; design through production; familiarity with DoD reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Desired experience: high-reliability aerospace electronics and unmanned space systems (micro/small satellites).

Opportunity to join a leading Space and Defense company developing advancedspace systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer (EE) to join our clients Electrical Technologies team located in Rancho Bernardo. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience leading the development of Electrical System Command and Data Handling architectures and Mixed-Signal/High-Speed Digital circuit designs who also thrives in a fast-paced, product development environment. The successful candidate will report to Electrical Technologies Sr. Manager of High-Speed Digital and, alongside high-caliber staff, will be engaged in the engineering support and new development of satellites and space systems, high-energy laser systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, nuclear thermal propulsion, cutting-edge technology ventures into Defense and “NewSpace,” and a variety of disruptive technologies in the expanding product portfolio.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with Engineering staff and chief engineers in the concept development and prototype design, integration, and test of high-power processing and controls solutions for all product lines and technology areas. These encompass high-power motor drives, power conditioning systems, high-energy laser systems, battery systems, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, space-based optical communications, small satellites and space systems, nuclear thermal propulsion, optical beam pointing and control, and signal/image processing.
  • With consultative direction, exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solutions for designated engineering systems, projects, and programs.
  • Demonstrate prior experience in the improvement of legacy systems and development of new systems.
  • Generate electrical architecture solutions for new project needs, perform electrical engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations, and manage technical effort schedules.
  • Function in a leadership role for a project/program and provide planning, direction and oversight to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff in technical efforts.
  • Formulate plans, typically multi-year, and coordinate solutions development and deployment including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solutions in an evolving environment.
  • Evaluate the integration of the engineering solutions within the overall engineering environment and ensure that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed.
  • Plan for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
  • Develops new and expands existing business opportunities.
  • Communicate with colleagues and management throughout solution development and deployment cycles.
  • Represent the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects and interact with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance is preferred
  • Required Experience: Electrical system command and data-handling architecture and technical team leadership; high-speed digital circuit design; embedded processing and controls; analysis, design, and implementation of hardware systems to include digital, analog, and RF is required; guiding a design through development and into production; familiarity with DoD technical review process (at a minimum: SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Desired Experience: High-reliability aerospace electronics and electrical systems; unmanned space-systems and satellites, including micro-satellites, cube-satellites, or small-satellites (>500 kg).
  • Desired Skills (ranked high to low): Experience with Altium PCB Design Software, PADS PCB Design Software, SPICE circuit simulation tools, HyperLynx Signal/Power Integrity tools, ANSYS Signal Integrity tools, Atlassian Tools, Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving project environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • Capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
  • Customer-focused and able to formulate plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Must be able to prepare and conduct detailed technical presentations and reviews for all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Some travel and extended work schedules may be required.
