Job summary

New York Times is seeking a senior software engineer responsible for delivering scalable cloud solutions. You will collect business requirements, lead production deployments, and coordinate cross‑team transitions among infrastructure, development, and QA.

You will coach engineers and guide performance reviews while shaping the technology roadmap. The role requires a strong background in Java/Spring microservices, AWS cloud, and security, with frontend experience in React and legacy JS stacks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑Bachelor’s software engineering experience (or 3 years with a Master’s degree).
• At least 3 years of experience designing, developing, and deploying applications on cloud infrastructure using AWS services; designing and implementing Spring‑based microservices with open‑source frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Security, SQL and No‑SQL databases; utilizing Java, Hibernate, JSON, HTML, CSS, Backbone JS, jQuery, PL/SQL, and Apache.
• Experience with log‑monitoring tools such as ELK, Splunk, or Sumologic and APM tools like New Relic.
• At least 2 years of experience designing software and product security, troubleshooting memory leaks, debugging resource deadlocks, and performing software architecture analysis.
• At least 1 year of experience developing React web applications and integrating hardware with software applications.

Responsibilities

• Collect business requirements and work on POCs to implement tech solutions.
• Serve as the primary lead for production deployments and ensure smooth transition between infrastructure, development and QA teams.
• Coach and motivate the software engineering team, conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
• Set priorities and technology design roadmap, assign and review tasks, review development and support requests.
