Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and tax experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with preparing tax returns for individuals, small businesses, partnerships, or nonprofit entities.
  • Experience with treasury functions, banking platforms, and financial controls.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office tools.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and deliver accurate results.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assist with tax filings for individuals, small businesses, partnerships, nonprofit entities, and related organizations.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms and related reporting requirements.
  • Research tax-related questions and assist with compliance matters.
  • Perform full-cycle accounting activities across multiple entities including GL maintenance and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and account analyses.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, intercompany transactions, and fixed assets depreciation.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-orientedSenior Tax Accountantto provide accounting, tax compliance, financial reporting, bookkeeping, and treasury management support to the Chief Financial Officer.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Tax Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for supporting accounting operations across multiple entities and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This hands-on role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working independently, managing complex financial information, and taking ownership of accounting and tax-related responsibilities.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, tax preparation experience, sound judgment, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with company leadership, support a diverse portfolio of entities, and contribute to process improvements that enhance financial operations andorganizational efficiency.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining in-person work in Bozeman, Montana with remote flexibility.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and assist with tax filings forindividuals, small businesses, partnerships, nonprofit entities, and otherrelated organizations.
  • Utilize tax preparation software tocomplete assigned tax compliance activities.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms and relatedreporting requirements.
  • Research tax-related questions andassist with compliance matters.
  • Maintain organized tax records andsupporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisorsand professionals as needed.
  • Perform full-cycle accounting activitiesfor multiple entities, including general ledger maintenance, journalentries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements,supporting schedules, and account analyses.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records andensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheetaccounts, intercompany transactions, and other assigned accounts.
  • Record and reconcile fixed assets,depreciation schedules, and related documentation.
  • Assist with annual budgeting,forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Analyze financial information, identifydiscrepancies, and recommend process improvements.
Treasury & Banking Management
  • Manage banking platforms and supportdaily treasury operations.
  • Process bank deposits, transfers, andother treasury transactions.
  • Monitor, research, and resolve positivepay exceptions and banking discrepancies.
  • Assist with fraud prevention controlsand banking portal administration.
  • Reconcile merchant card transactions andinvestigate variances.
  • Research and respond to outstandingcheck inquiries.
Accounts Payable & Payroll Support
  • Review, code, and process accountspayable invoices and expense reports.
  • Process payroll and employee expensesthrough Paylocity.
  • Maintain vendor records and assist withvendor onboarding.
  • Document, track, and resolve credit carddisputes.
  • Support accurate and timely processingof financial transactions.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Utilize and maintain financial systems,including:
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • QuickBooks Online
  • Paylocity
  • SharePoint
  • Bank of America CashPro
  • Learn and effectively utilize newsoftware applications and technology solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improveaccounting processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Assist with special projects and otherduties as assigned.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting and tax experience. Strong understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting. Experience preparing individual, small business, partnership, or nonprofit tax returns. Experience with treasury functions, banking platforms, and financial controls. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and deliver accurate results.

Preferred:

  • CPA license or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience working in a family office, private company, or multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and tax preparation software.
  • Experience supporting high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, or privately held entities.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
