Job summary
Focused Energy in Austin is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to support the TTE project, laser work, and operational readiness.
You will partner with engineering and operations to identify hazards, assess risks, and translate findings into practical safety controls.
This embedded safety role requires hands-on analysis, strong documentation, and collaboration with the central safety function in Germany.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field; advanced degree is a plus.
- 5+ years in systems safety, engineering safety, operational safety, or closely related role in high-risk or regulated environments.
- Experience performing structured hazard analyses; translate findings into practical controls.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams in fast-moving R&D, prototype, or advanced manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Act as the engineering safety partner for the Austin site across design, installation, validation, commissioning and operation.
- Lead hazard analyses (HAZID, FMEA, JHA, what-if) for laser, electrical, cryogenic, and facility systems.
- Review designs to ensure safety requirements and interlocks are incorporated early.
- Provide hands-on safety support during installation, commissioning and operation.
