Job summary

Twist Bioscience in Portland, OR (onsite in Wilsonville) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to lead development, validation and integration of automated laboratory instrumentation and bioprocess technologies. You will design automated workflows, write scripts, and connect robotic systems with enterprise LIMS to drive quality.

The role spans hardware/software interfaces, DoE testing, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure cost-effective, compliant processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MS with 3 years, BS with 5 years in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience developing automated instrumentation for bioprocesses.
• Experience with DoE for testing and troubleshooting of processes.
• Experience in designing and writing scripts (C#, Python) for lab automation and cross-integration systems.
• Experience with sample tracking software and interfaces between robotic instrumentation and LIMS systems (MES/Maestro, Twist build).
• Excellent scientific computation and data analysis capabilities.
• Hands-on skills to assemble and maintain hardware.
• Excellent communication and writing skills; able to work in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and release new processes and technologies to achieve cost-effectiveness and improved product quality.
• Develop and test protocols, scripts, and systems to automate certain bioprocesses.
• Operate and maintain a range of instruments with a focus on laboratory automation and cross-integration systems.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to troubleshoot equipment and system issues.
• Prepare and participate in documentation, knowledge transfer, and training activities.
• Follow regulatory and ISO 13485 requirements.
