Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Systems Engineer–Reentry & Advanced Strategic Capabilities to design, analyze, and advance hypersonic and reentry technologies. You will lead system-level analyses, coordinate with government sponsors, and guide multidisciplinary teams to address critical capability gaps.

The role requires a strong background in aerospace/physics, 3+ years in strategic weapons or similar systems, and eligibility for security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, systems engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with nuclear/strategic weapon systems, reentry, hypersonic or space systems.
  • Experience with hardware/software prototype development.
  • Experience in design trade studies, requirements analysis and risk assessment.
  • Eligibility for Interim Secret security clearance and potential Top Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship).

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering leadership to assess weapon system capabilities and support development of next-gen reentry/hypersonic systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including government sponsors, military personnel, and industry partners.
  • Prepare for and participate in major design and requirements reviews.
  • Participate in government working groups to evaluate concepts and proposals for technical recommendations.
  • Engage with senior leadership and prepare reports/presentations communicating results.
