Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a systems engineering leader to design and implement advanced DoD systems. The role involves guiding human-system engineering across multidisciplinary teams and shaping research in human-machine collaboration and autonomous systems.

You will work with engineers to develop concepts, derive requirements, and review designs while engaging stakeholders and warfighters to ensure practical, mission-focused outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Strong communication skills and team culture building.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a SECRET security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of current and future systems using systems and mission engineering practices.
  • Facilitate warfighter engagement in system design and development.
  • Collaborate with engineers to generate human-system designs and concepts, derive requirements, and provide technical direction.
  • Communicate designs and concepts via task flows, activity diagrams, and wireframes; review designs for adherence to standards.
  • Lead fast-paced research projects in areas like human-machine teamwork, unmanned vehicle command and control, and AI-enabled systems.
  • Shape research vision, report accomplishments to sponsors, and coordinate with multiple organizations.
