Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a systems engineering leader to join our Human System Engineering team in Laurel, MD. You will help design and implement next‑generation DoD systems, bridging human and machine capabilities in high‑stakes environments.

You will collaborate with engineers and sponsors to develop human‑system concepts, derive requirements, and shape research directions in areas like warfighter team behavior, autonomous control, and AI‑enabled systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant engineering field (Systems, Civil or Industrial) or equivalent.
  • Strong leadership, innovation, and strategic initiative execution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and development of systems using systems and mission engineering practices.
  • Facilitate warfighter engagement in system design and development.
  • Generate human‑system designs and derive requirements; provide technical direction and feedback on designs.
  • Communicate designs via task flows, activity diagrams, and wireframes; ensure adherence to human‑system standards.
  • Develop and lead fast‑paced research projects in areas like human‑machine team behavior and AI‑enabled systems.
  • Report accomplishments to sponsors and stakeholders; review results across organizations.
