Job summary

Kapsch TrafficCom is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to own the end-to-end integration of roadside hardware, embedded devices, and back-office software. You will guide technical discussions, translate customer needs into verifiable requirements, and drive the program from bid phase through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years delivering complex systems where hardware and software are integrated in the field.
• Ability to own a client relationship on a multi-year program with stakeholders.
• 5+ years implementing technical solutions in systems engineering.
• Ownership of hardware/software integration through full lifecycle — design, integration, test, commissioning, handoff.
• 4+ years across two or more domains: electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, software, or systems integration engineering.
• Strong requirements engineering — eliciting, decomposition, traceability, and change control.
• Excellent communication and relationship-management skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of IP networking, Cisco environment.
• Proven ability to lead technical conversations with customers and guide cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to deliver technical presentations and customer-facing communications.
• Strong writing skills for requirements, specs, and interface definitions.
• Curiosity and ownership with a team-focused mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discussions with the client, understand objectives, communicate tradeoffs, and manage scope professionally.
• Own the requirements baseline end-to-end — elicitation, analysis, validation, traceability, and change control.
• Maintain end-to-end view of the solution, ensuring hardware/software integration across disciplines.
• Define interfaces between roadside hardware and software layers, specifying protocols and data flows.
• Drive FAT/SAT testing and troubleshoot where hardware, firmware, and software meet in the field.
• Lead cross-functional teams to align engineering against a single requirements baseline.
