Job summary

Shift5, headquartered in Rosslyn, VA, seeks a Systems Engineer to bridge engineering and real-world deployments, overseeing integration of software, hardware, and networks to meet airworthiness and compliance for DoW programs.

You will own baselines, develop SRDs/ICDs, deliver CDRLs, and lead system architecture across software, cyber, and platform teams. Travel up to 30% for site work and testing; remote work options available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (CS/CE/EE/ME).
• 5+ years in systems/integration or software engineering in aerospace/defense/high-reliability sectors.
• Familiarity with government contract docs (DIDs).
• Strong understanding of CM, software/OS integration (Linux/Unix), network architectures.
• Experience with system verification methods and HIL/ SIL setups.
• Active Security Clearance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Define and design platform integration into customer systems (data interfaces, OS config, networks, encryption).
• Own system baselines, track/testing, verify compliance, and document requirements (SRDs/ SRSs/ ICDs).
• Lead development and delivery of CDRLs and related artifacts.
• Guide end-to-end system architecture across software, cyber, data, and platform teams.
• Define verification strategies, testing, and risk analyses (FMECA, Single-Point Failure).
• Engage with customers, PMOs, and certification authorities; manage reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRRs).
