Job summary

Xeris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking a Sr. IT Systems Engineer to design, implement, and support core infrastructure with a focus on Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, and endpoint management.

This role ensures secure, scalable, reliable, and well-documented systems for a highly regulated biopharmaceutical environment. The Senior IT Systems Engineer will own and advance identity platforms, manage Intune/Autopilot, and lead security enhancements across Windows servers and enterprise apps.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure services; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Deep understanding of identity and access management (Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD Connect, SSO).
  • Proven ability to manage Intune-based endpoint management and Autopilot provisioning.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with a track record of structured problem solving.
  • Effective communication skills, able to translate technical topics into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and managing risk across applications and systems in alignment with security and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize Windows servers, including routine security patching and performance tuning.
  • Implement and continuously improve security best practices, conduct regular audits, and remediate vulnerabilities across systems and endpoints.
  • Lead or contribute to complex technical projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver on time and within scope.

Job Overview

Sr. IT Systems Engineer designs, implements, and supports the company’s core infrastructure with a focus on Microsoft 365, Azure, identity, and endpoint management. This role ensures our systems are secure, scalable, reliable, and well‑documented to support a growing, highly regulated biopharmaceutical environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Own and advance our identity platform, including Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD Connect, and hybrid identity solutions.
  • Design, implement, and manage modern endpoint management using Intune and Autopilot, including application deployment, configuration, automation, and patching.
  • Configure and maintain enterprise applications using Entra ID, SAML SSO, and SCIM provisioning to deliver secure, frictionless access.
  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize Windows servers, including routine security patching and performance tuning.
  • Implement and continuously improve security best practices, conduct regular audits, and remediate vulnerabilities across systems and endpoints.
  • Lead or contribute to complex technical projects, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver on time and within scope.
  • Identify operational issues, propose solutions, and drive implementation to improve reliability and user experience.
  • Manage and resolve advanced incidents and requests, including ownership of high‑complexity tickets and appropriate escalation to senior leadership when needed.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for system configurations, standards, and procedures, including content needed for risk assessments and validation activities.
  • Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches to system administration and infrastructure management.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum three years of hands‑on experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure services; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Deep understanding of identity and access management (Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD Connect, SSO).
  • Proven ability to manage Intune‑based endpoint management and Autopilot provisioning.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills with a track record of structured problem solving.
  • Effective communication skills, able to translate technical topics into actionable insights for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Experience identifying, assessing, and managing risk across applications and systems in alignment with security and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, KQL, or similar.
  • Experience using Copilot, PowerPlatform or other AI tools to automate or enhance IT workflows.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a mindset oriented towards innovation and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

Hybrid role based in the Chicago office; minimum of three days per week on site (subject to change at management’s discretion). May require occasional evening or weekend work and periodic overnight travel as business needs dictate.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $112,000 to $140,000. Employees are eligible for equity or long‑term incentive awards, where applicable. Non‑sales employees are eligible for an annual bonus.
