Lawrence Berkeley National Lab is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator for the ALS-IT team to lead strategic IT initiatives, overseeing Windows and Linux environments, virtualization, and security across beamlines and control room systems.

You will drive modernization, partner with ALS leadership, and mentor IT professionals to deliver secure, reliable services enabling world-class scientific discovery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 12+ years in professional IT, or 8+ years with a Master.
• Proven people-management experience supervising technical staff and delivering on priorities.
• Strong cybersecurity leadership experience in enterprise or research environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the ALS-IT team with coaching, performance management, and hiring oversight.
• Set strategic and technical direction for IT infrastructure, including systems, servers, storage, and cybersecurity.
• Develop and execute the technology roadmap, manage resources, and lead modernization initiatives.
• Act as primary cybersecurity advisor for ALS beamline and controls environments to ensure reliability and security.
• Oversee Windows/Linux enterprise environments, directory services, virtualization, and automation.
